Are you Fit to Sing?

Most singers have some general ideas about health and nutrition.  We can be obsessed with the health of our vocal folds and go to great lengths to avoid illness, sometimes in comical or stereotypical ways (who wears a scarf at all times?). We know that proper alignment is crucial, we try to avoid excessive tension, we work hard to develop our breath management system, we know what foods to avoid before singing and what supplements to take when we feel a cold coming on, we are some of the best hydrated people on the planet.  Is that enough?  

You can become a technically proficient singer just by observing these basics, but your voice is so much more than just your motor (breath), vibrator (vocal folds) and resonators (pharynx).  When I train for myself, I make sure to invest time on cardiorespiratory conditioning, core stability, balance, flexibility and balanced muscle strength: all important elements to enhance vocal production.  Nutrition is crucial as well. In fact, 80% of your health depends on nutrition. Are you losing potential income due to frequent illness? It may be because of what you are eating.
